Ambassador NAKAMURA delivered opening remarks at the Baltic Indo-Pacific Forum 2025

On June 11, Ambassador NAKAMURA Koichiro delivered opening remarks at the Baltic Indo-Pacific Forum (BIPF) 2025, held by the Japan Chair of the International Center for Defense and Security (ICDS), Dr. Bart Gaens.
The Ambassador expressed the acknowledgement for holding BIPF for the second time, emphasized the significance of hosting the BIPF in the current international situation where the security of the Euro-Atlantic and Indo-Pacific regions is inseparable, and appreciated ICDS's activities to promote mutual understanding of security in the two regions, expressing his expectations for further activities in the future.
Following the Ambassador’s opening remarks, H.E. Mr. Margus Tsahkna, Minister of Foreign Affairs noted the direct impact of involvement of China and North Korea in Russia's aggression against Ukraine on Indo-Pacific region, the importance of developing cooperation between Europe and the Indo-Pacific based on common values and interests, and concluded his keynotes with his expectations for the third BIPF to be held.
In addition to European experts such as Dr. Eva Pejsova, Japan Chair at Brussels School of Governance, and Ms. Céline Pajon, Head of Japan and Indo-Pacific Research, French Institute of International Relations, BIPF was attended by Mr. SUZUKI Hideo, Ambassador for Public Diplomacy of the Government of Japan, Professor TOKUCHI Hideshi, the President of the Research Institute for Peace and Security, and Mr. GOROKU Tsuyoshi, Associate Professor of Nishogakusha University, to actively discuss geopolitical shifts in the Indo-Pacific region and maritime security in both regions.
