Scholarships, Exchange and Study Programs

Embassy of Japan in Estonia offers Japanese Government (Monbukagakusho: MEXT) Scholarships, various programs of The Japan Foundation and other exchange or study programs. These programs give the opportunity for the citizens of Estonia to travel to Japan for short or long term study tours, to receive an education or carry out research in Japanese universities.
The main objective of these educational and exchange programs is to foster mutual understanding between Japanese and Estonians, to encourage better understanding of Japan and understanding of the benefits of international cooperation. We encourage you to participate actively in all these programs!

MEXT (The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (文部科学省 Monbu-kagaku-shō)) Scholarship Programs

The Embassy of Japan announces that application for the following four scholarships is open:

• Research Student Scholarship
• Undergraduate Scholarship
• Specialized Training College Scholarship
• College of Technology (KOSEN) Scholarship

Application deadline for all scholarships: June 2, 2026 (Tuesday)

Fully completed original documents should be submitted to the Embassy by this date. Documents received by email will not be accepted.

Please read the Application Guidelines carefully before applying. Those who have passed the first screening will be contacted individually. Written examination and interviews will take place between 10-12th of June.

MIRAI Programme

MIRAI is a short-term youth exchange scheme set up to invite graduate and undergraduate students to Japan.
 
 
Japan's Friendship Ties Program “MIRAI” (Mutual understanding, Intellectual Relations and Academic Exchange Initiative) invites groups of promising young leaders from Europe, Central Asia and the Caucasus who study Diplomacy, Security Policies, Economics, Science and Technology, Arts and Culture, International Relations, Environmental Sciences, SDGs related studies, Asian Studies, Japan Studies or other related fields, and also who are expected to play an active role in international society and provides opportunities to have intellectual exchanges with Japanese students of the same generations and scholars.
 
All participants are expected to share and disseminate their experiences and charms of Japan proactively through SNS and other media during and after the visit to Japan so that international understanding and sustainable interest of the participants towards Japan would be continuously promoted and deepened.
