Greetings from NAKAMURA Koichiro, Ambassador of Japan to Estonia

2024/10/28
Dear Estonian people and all visitors of this website,
Tere!
I am NAKAMURA Koichiro, new Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Republic of Estonia. I arrived at Tallinn on October 18. Today, I presented the letter of credence to H.E. Mr. Alar Karis, President of the Republic of Estonia. I am extremely excited that I work as Japanese Ambassador in this respectable country with its long history and beautiful nature.

I realize that our interest in Estonia in Japan has been increasing more rapidly than ever. In the 30 years since re-independence, Estonia has achieved remarkable development and established itself as a world leader in the IT and cyber fields. Estonia is a fascinating country with many different faces: it is known as the ‘e-Government’ and has a high standard of education that supports its growth, and it has a strong entrepreneurial spirit, as symbolized by the success of ‘unicorn companies’ from this country.

Unfortunately, Russia’s invasion of Ukraine still continues, and global security has been severely jeopardized. It is universally recognized that international security is indivisible. Cyber-attacks are much more seriously considered as common actual threats to everybody. In such security environment, Japan regards Estonia as one of most reliable partners, who shares security concerns with us.

I am also impressed by the fact that many Estonians and Japanese residents have worked together for many years in various fields such as art, culture, education and business, and have become bridges between the two countries. I think it very important to have more visitors to both countries toward future, know each other, and deepen their bonds through human to human interaction, and build long-lasting friendships.

As Ambassador of Japan, I am very happy to work in this attractive country. I will make my best efforts to visit and see as many places as possible in Estonia and know each other with all of you, people in Estonia.
