Ambassador NAKAMURA Attends Meeting Between the Mayor of Sakai Town in Ibaraki prefecture Mr. HASHIMOTO Masahiro and the Mayor of Tallinn Mr. Peeter Raudsepp

On July 29, Ambassador NAKAMURA Koichiro attended a meeting at Jaan Poska maja between the Mayor of Tallinn Mr. Peeter Raudsepp and Mayor Mr. HASHIMOTO Masahiro of Sakai Town, Ibaraki Prefecture, and his delegation including representatives of Japanese companies. In the meeting the Ambassador delivered a welcoming address. The mayor of the town and the delegation received a briefing from Tallinn city officials regarding the city's infrastructure digitalization efforts.
Sakai Town was the first municipality in Japan to begin operating autonomous buses on fixed routes and schedules in November 2020 and began operating three "MiCa 1.0" buses developed by the Estonian company Auve Tech at the end of November 2023. Mayor Mr. HASHIMOTO has visited Estonia on numerous occasions.
The Embassy hopes that this meeting will lead to the further development of the relationship between Sakai Town and Tallinn, and by extension with Estonia.
