“Japanese Culture Day” event takes place

2025/11/1
On November 1, "Japanese Culture Day" event and the Japanese Film Festival, organized by the Japanese Cultural Society in Estonia and the Embassy of Japan in Estonia, were held at Saku Gymnasium in Saku City. These events were one of the main highlights of "Momiji - Japanese Autumn in Estonia 2025," a Japanese culture festival co-hosted by the two organizations, running from September through November.
This year, Saku Gymnasium was kindly provided as the venue, thanks to the long-standing friendship and sister city relationship that Saku City maintains with Saku City in Nagano Prefecture, Japan.
During the opening ceremony, welcome remarks were given by Mr. HAYASHI Tomomi, President of the Japanese Cultural Society in Estonia, Mr. NAKAMURA Koichiro, Ambassador of Japan and Mr. Eero Alamaa, Chairman of the Saku Municipality Council.
Following the opening ceremony, all attendees participated in a session of Radio Taiso(Japanese calisthenics). This led into a wide variety of activities, including workshops on Origami, Kimono, and Shodo (Calligraphy); a concert of Japanese music featuring the flute and piano; Japanese games; a Kintsugi (gold-joining) demonstration; and performances of Aikido and Yosakoidancing. Additionally, the Embassy hosted a special screening of the Japanese film Okko's Inn. The high turnout for every event made it a truly wonderful day.
We would like to express our sincere gratitude to Saku Municipality, Saku Gymnasium and all involved parties, including the volunteers.
