Ambassador NAKAMURA exchanges views with Japanese and Estonian architects

On August 4, Ambassador NAKAMURA Koichiro and his wife Mrs. NAKAMURA Keiko invited eminent Japanese and Estonian architectural professionals and their spouses to his residence. The guests included Professor TANAKA Tomoaki of Department of Architecture, Meiji University, who visits Tallinn from Tokyo; Ms. Aet Ader, President of the Estonian Association of Architects, and her husband, Mr. Laur Kaunissaare, Theatre adviser at the Ministry of Culture; Professor Andres Ojari, Head of the Department of Architecture and Urban Planning at the Estonian Academy of Arts, and his wife, Ms. Triin Ojari, Head of the Councelling Department for the Heritage Protection Unit at the Tallinn Urban Planning Department; Professor Kimmo Lylykangas, Tenured Full Professor at the Tallinn University of Technology's Department of Civil Engineering and Architecture, and his wife, Professor Hanna Korsberg of the University of Helsinki's Department of Philosophy, History and Art Studies; and Professor HAYASHI Tomomi of the TTK University of Applied Sciences' Institute of Architecture, and his wife, Ms. HAYASHI Ayaka. Professor TANAKA has just been appointed as Chair of the Canberra Accord, an international agreement for architectural education accreditation bodies concluded in 2008 based on the UNESCO-UIA Charter for Architectural Education.

The hosts and invitees had a lively exchange of views on the status of architectural societies in Japan and Estonia, the current state of international exchange with third countries, and the possibility of cooperation between Japan and Estonia in the field of architectural education. It is hoped that this meeting will lead to developing cooperation between the two countries in the field of architectural education and nurturing emerging architects.
