Ambassador NAKAMURA thanks Saku City in Estonia and Saku City in Nagano Prefecture for active sister city relations

On July 4, Ambassador NAKAMURA Koichiro invited officials from Saku City, Estonia, including Mayor Martti Rehemaa and City Council Chairman Eero Alamaa, and those from Saku City, Nagano Prefecture, including Mayor YANAGIDA Seiji and City Council Chairman SHIMIZU Shuzaburo, who were currently visiting Estonia, to his official residence. These two municipalities have had a long-standing friendly relationship.
Ambassador NAKAMURA expressed his sincere gratitude to the delegations from both cities, saying that he highly values the active sister city exchange between the two cities as a symbol of the friendly relationship between Japan and Estonia and as the foundation of bilateral relations. The attendees toasted with Saku City's beer "Saku Beer" and Saku City's sake "Tachibana".
The two cities signed a friendship city agreement in 2007 and a sister city agreement in 2019, and have close exchanges, including mutual visits by children every year. Mayor YANAGIDA visited Estonia for the first time in six years since 2019, taking the opportunity of the Song and Dance Festival held in Tallinn at this time of year.
