Ambassador Matsumura visited Tartu

On October 14, Ambassador Matsumura visited Tartu and participated in the international conference "Open and closed societies: historical reasons and modern consequences of inequality in Japan and Europe" held at the University of Tartu. At the conference Ambassador Matsumura delivered a speech. 
After the conference, he visited Tartu City government. The mayor, Mr. Klaas explained that Tartu city focuses on education and support for startup companies, and that many universities and startup companies are active in Tartu partly thanks to the efforts by the city.
Ambassador Matsumura then visited the Estonian Research Council, and held a meeting with the Director, Dr. Noorma. The director gave a briefing on the role of the Council, cooperation with Japan, and the situation of research and development in Estonia.
In all three visits, Ambassador Matsumura conveyed the importance of further developing Japan- Estonia relations and had a fruitful exchange of views.
