On October 20, Ambassador Matsumura visited Põltsamaa, well-known for its juice, soup, wine and dairy products, and held a meeting with the mayor Mr. Külanurm.
They visited the Põltsamaa Castle, the symbol of the town, and toured the museum and the wine cellar on the premises and the cheese factory. The mayor explained about the town's history and major industries, such as the fact that Põltsamaa was the capital of the Kingdom of Livonia and the castle used to be the official residence of King Magnus, and that the town is called the “Wine Capital of Estonia”, because the town has been producing wine for 100 years.
