The Estonian translation of Natsume Sōseki’s book "I Am a Cat" was presented

2023/3/6
On March 2, the Estonian translation of Natsume Sōseki’s book "I Am a Cat" was presented at Rahva Raamat bookstore in Viru Shopping Centre. The presentation was organized by Tänapäev, the publisher of the book.
Dr. Maret Nukke, the translator, discussed the book with Ms. Maarja Jaanits, the  translator of another Sōseki’s book, "Botchan".
Dr. Nukke gave a brief explanation about the Meiji era when the book is set and how the Japanese language and literature had changed during that time. They also discussed the specialities of Sōseki’s writing style. The titular cat is used as a framing device: the reader sees the characters through the cat’s eyes, which gives the book its unique humour.
We hope that many Estonian readers will enjoy this book!
