●Kühne + Nagel社,タリンにITサポートセンター設置
Logistics giant brought IT centre to Tallinn. The international logistics firm Kühne + Nagel will set up an IT support centre in Tallinn. The concern considered all three Baltic states and selected Estonia for cultural similarity and local capability. "Obviously, other Baltic states have IT capability as well, but it is mostly concentrated in support units and on specific programs rather than independent development", said Martin Kolbe, IT manager of the concern. Kühne + Nagel AS has hired approximately 100 specialists during the past year and will start regular operations in the autumn. The Tallinn centre is developing an existing core system and a number of support services.

Estonia had Europe’s biggest growth in car sales. In the first six months of 2013, 10,282 cars were registered in Estonia, which is 15.2 per cent more than a year before.

IT firms plan data storage in Estonia. Eesti Ekspress has information that negotiations are in progress on the establishment of data storage farms in Estonia. Earlier plans by Google and Microsoft were cancelled due to energy supply problems. Specialists argue that Estonia has numerous advantages as a host of server farms due to proximity to Russia, low labour and real estate costs, safe environment and convenient climate. Estonia's disadvantages are seen mainly in weak lobby work.

●GuardTime社(タイム・スタンプ),前年比3.5倍の増益
GuardTime offering time-seal service earned 3.5 times higher profit than last year. With € 1.8 million turnover it earned € 128,865 in profit. Now it also starts cooperating with cloud service firms.

Estonian start-up Fortumo offering mobile payment service earned one million euros in profit. Company’s turnover was € 8.6 million. Fortumo has offices in Tartu, San Francisco and Beijing.

Estonian ports mediated 3.4 million tons of goods in June, i.e. 14.5 per cent increase year-on-year.

●ベンツ,エストニア経由でロシアへ輸出
Luxury cars are transported from Germany to Russia via Estonia. Estonian firm Assistor sent within six months 25,945 brand new Mercedes-Benz cars to Russia. Assistor prepares the cars for transport from Paldiski port to Russia. In 2012 firm earned € 466,000 in net profit.

●第1四半期の家計債務:ピーク時の3年前より27ポイント減少
Household debt burden decreased. Bank of Estonia reported that thanks to debt repayments and higher revenues, the debt volume as a percentage of GDP was 140 per cent at the end of the I quarter. That is 27 percentage points lower than in the peak three years ago and is back to the early 2007 level.

●エストニアのアルコール飲料輸出増加
Estonian alcohol producers rely on export. Beer export increased from € 24 million in 2011 to € 31.5 million in 2012 and strong liqueur export from € 118 million to € 150 million. This year A. Le Coq plans exporting in addition to beer also more of its non-alcoholic beverages. Company’s net profit in 2012 was € 13 million similarly to 2011. Estonian biggest vodka producer Liviko increased its net profit from € 1.5 million to € 2 million in 2012 and its CEO Janek Kalvi said company was sucessful especially in exporting its products.

Germany and Estonia were the only Eurozone countries to cut debt in I quarter. Estonia brought its debt down to 10.0 per cent from 10.1 per cent of GDP, i.e. the lowest debt ratio in Europe. Germany’s debt was 81.2 per cent of GDP in the I quarter.

●第2四半期の銀行部門利益総額:1億5,500万ユーロ
Banks earned profit thanks to dividends. According to the central bank's data, the net profit of the banking sector amounted to € 155 million in the II quarter, of which dividends received from subsidiaries accounted for nearly 48 per cent. Without this financial income the net profit of the sector would have been around 11 per cent lower than the year before, the Bank of Estonia said.

●スカイプ10周年
Skype celebrates its tenth anniversary on August 29. Estonian major businessmen had little faith in the Estonian plan, thus losing an excellent money earning opportunity. Four Estonian IT- boys earned 2 billion kroons (about 128 million euros) with the sales deal. The founders of Skype are Priit Kasesalu, Jaan Tallinn, Ahti Heinla and Toivo Annus from Estonia and a Swede Niklas Zennström and a Dane Janus Friis.

●Estonian Air社(国営航空),6月に3年ぶり黒字
Estonian Air’s II quarter results are positive. National airline increased sales revenue by 20 per cent, while cutting losses by 80 per cent in the II quarter of 2013 to € 0.9 million. CEO Jan Palmér said that the restructuration programme has been successfully finished. In June the company earned also profit after more than three years of earning losses. Palmér added that the airline expects to make a small loss in the second half-year and that stable profitability should return by 2015. Also, while the airline has a contract for an extra € 12 million in state aid, it will do everything not to have a need for it.

●2012年の観光部門(サービス輸出)成長率:前年比+2.7%の12億ユーロ
For the third year in a row Estonian tourism sector grew twice as fast as Estonian economy. Last year Estonian tourism sector exported for € 1.2 billion, i.e. 2.7 per cent increase. Tourism comprised 20 per cent of Estonian service export and 7.4 per cent of all export of Estonian goods and services, reported the Economy Ministry. It is estimated that 5.3 million trips were done by foreigners in 2012.

●2012年の機械工業売上高,前年比+5%
Economy Ministry: Estonian machinery industry continued to grow in 2012. The growth was 5 per cent. The ministry announced that also the number of employed people and salaries increased in the sector. Export comprised 75 per cent of total sales with main export partner being Finland, where 40 per cent of products were exported. Export fell to Sweden and Russia.

●国会議員101人中40人が企業家
Riigikogu’s most successful entrepreneur Reet Roos (祖国共和同盟) says youngsters should be more active in businesses. Roos says in an interview that the fact that there are 40 entrepreneurs among 101 members of parliament is quite a lot. Roos believes businessmen are involved in politics because they are in general more actively involved in the society. Roos also noted the need to promote more entrepreneurship spirit among youngsters in Estonia.

Port of Tallinn CEO Ain Kaljurand can be happy with the best results the company has ever had in July. In July the port was passed by 1.17 million passengers, while last year it was 1.14 million.

●GuardTime社,軍事・諜報市場に進出
GuardTime offers its services to military and intelligence. Estonian company GuardTime formed a strategic alliance with US technology firm Modern Technology Solutions to start together offering the time seal service to the military and intelligence organisations. The time seal mathematic method allows seeing when someone has manipulated with document’s information. GuardTime Estonia CEO Gustav Poola did not wish to comment on the classified information related details. Also the Estonian Defence Ministry did not comment on its possible use of GuardTime’s services. However, SEB bank uses GuardTime openly.
