The reason the ministry altered economic growth forecast is Estonia’s near neighbours, whose economic growth outlooks have darkened. That, in turn, has postponed the acceleration of export growth and investment activity growth earlier expected.

Estonian ID cards would make it easy for foreign entrepreneurs to set up companies and open bank accounts in Estonia, use the country's fully digital tax system and highly developed online banking. The internal ministry is prepared to issue the first ID cards at the end of this year provided the Riigikogu passes corresponding legislation by fall.
