7th International Children´s Christmas Sumo Tournament 2013
Young boys and girls competed at the 7th International Children´s Christmas Sumo Tournament held at Vinni Sports Center in Lääne-Viru County on Saturday, December 21st. Mr. Ato, the Cultural Attache of the Japanese Embassy in Estonia, watched the tournament for the first time and was very impressed at the high level of the sumo and good skills of the athletes. Mr. Ato also played a role of the presenter of the Ambassador´s Cup to the winners.
Congratulations to the participants as well as supporters for the successful tournament.

Presentation Ceremony to Tallinn University of Technology Japanese-Language Material &
Financial Support for the Teacher was held on Monday, October 7, 2013 16:00, Room SOC-416. The grant was presented by the Japanese Ambassador H.E. Tetsuro Kai and the Dean of School of Economics and Business Administration Mr. Üllas Ehrlich and International studies Vice-Dean Mr. Peeter Müürsepp represented the Tallinn University of Technology.
This program aims to support teaching Japanese-language and activities related to it.
Ambassador Kai said that he was happy that it is now possible to study Japanese at all three major Estonian universities.

Event for Returnee Exchange Students
The Embassy of Japan in Estonia invited everyone who has studied in Japan to an event on Oct 4, where people could exchange experiences of studying in Japan and network. Ambassador Kai also offered delicious Japanese food and the event ended with everyone singing together.

Estonian Sumo Tournament
On March 17, the Estonian Sumo Tournament took place at Felix Hall in Põltsamaa city. The Governor of Jõgeva, Mr. Viktor Svjatõšev with his wife, Põltsamaa Mayor, Mr. Mihkel Kübar and Ambassador Kai with his wife also participated as observers. Sumo wrestlers as young as 14 years old until adult category competed (both men and women) and showed the results of their previous training. Ambassador Kai handed Ambassador’s Cup to winners (men and women, absolute category) of the Estonian Sumo Tournament with 169 participants. After the Estonian Sumo Tournament, the Estonian Open (international competition with 60 participants) took place where wrestlers from countries such as Poland, Ukraine and Azerbaijan competed.

Japanese Language Speech Contest
On March 13, the 8th Estonian National Japanese language speech contest took place at Tallinn University with 14 participants, who showed their skills of daily Japanese learning. The topics included: power of the words, Japanese spirituality, Japanese mimetic words (擬態語) , Japanese culture, Japanese martial arts, longing for Japan, Japanese fashion, difficulties of learning Japanese and many more.

Japanese Culture Introduction “Day Trip to Japan”
On March 12, Ambassador Kai hosted Japanese learners from junior and senior high schools (Old Town Educational College, Järveotsa Gymnasium, Lasnamäe Gymnasium, etc) in Tallinn at his residence. The students enjoyed their try-on of Ikebana (flower arrangement), Chanoyu (tea ceremony), Origami (folding paper craft) by local teachers, Japanese calligraphy by Mrs. Kai, and also Sushi demonstration by Ambassador’s chef.

Lectures by Professor Uchida
Professor Kaz Uchida of Waseda Business School visited Estonia under the Lecturer Dispatch Program by MoFA Japan, and gave lectures at Tallinn University of Technology (March 4) and University of Tartu (March 5) on the theme “The Past and the Future of the Japanese Companies”. There were a large audience and active Q & A sessions on both days.
Ambassador of Japan´s Meeting with Students of Noarootsi Gymnasium
On February 8th, Ambassador Kai explained about Japan’s activity in UN on disarmament and sustainable development to students from Noarootsi Gymnasium who later participatde as Japanese Delegation in Model UN for Gymnasium, organaized by the Estonian National Commission for UNESCO.
