Japanese professional football player Hidetoshi Wakui’s Team Won the League Title

Hidetoshi Wakui’s team JK Nõmme Kalju won their first Estonian league title in 2012. Wakui played an important role in the team. He finished second in the most valuable player voting and was chosen to the all-star team. In addition to his success on the football field, he donated two specially designed balls to schools for children with visual impairments. Congratulations, Wakui!

Result of the third Japan-EU English Haiku Contest

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan and the European Union (EU) hosted the third Japan-EU English Haiku Contest on the theme of "Dawn" from June 4 to July 30. The total number of entries was 523: 104 entries from Japan and 419 entries from the EU member states as well as Croatia.

Five honorable mentions were also selected in each section. The Japanese and the European winners were offered small gifts from Matsuyama City and the EU. Among five honorable mentions were two young Estonians Erik Loide and Tiina Silvia Lahesoo.

On September 28, on behalf of Ambassador Hoshi, DCM Mr. Yoshii presented small gifts from Matsuyama City to Mr. Erik Loide and Ms. Tiina Silvia Lahesoo at the Embassy.

Japanese Language Material Presented to Lasnamäe Gymnasium (Japan Foundation’s Grant Program for Japanese Language Education Activities)

Japanese textbooks for Japanese language classes in Lasnamäe Gymnasium were purchased with the financial support from Grant Program for Japanese Language Education Activities for Fiscal Year 2012-2013 by the Japan Foundation, a Japanese government’s cultural affiliate.
On 19th of September in 2012, Ambassador Hoshi presented the catalogue for Japanese textbooks to the principal Mr. Aleksander Haak at the grant presenting ceremony at Lasnamäe Gymnasium.
Around 20 students from Japanese classes warmly welcomed the Ambassador in a classroom with Mr. Haak and after the ceremony they introduced themselves in Japanese to the Ambassador. It was a great opportunity to showcase the fruits of daily studies of the students.

The Awarding Ceremony of Foreign Minister’s Commendations 2012 to Mr. Heikki Vallaste, President of Estonia-Japan Association 

At the awarding ceremony for Foreign Minister’s Commendations 2012, Mr. Heikki Vallaste, President of Estonia-Japan Association was awarded for his contribution in promotion of mutual understanding between Japan and Estonia by Ambassador Hideaki Hoshi. The ceremony took place on the occasion of a business seminar held in collaboration with JETRO (Japan External Trade Organization) on September 12 at the Ambassador’s residence with a participation of over 50 persons from the business world and business-related in Estonia and Japan.

"SAKU Estonian Festival 2012" at Saku City in Japan

To introduce Estonia and Saku in Japan, a local shop “Oginoya” organized “SAKU Estonian Festival 2012” in Saku City, Nagano, which has friendship relation with Saku municipality in Estonia. There was a photo exhibition of Estonia, shops selling Saku beer and variety goods from Estonia, an Estonian restaurant and many more.
