●デビットカード保有率約93%,世界4位
Estonia ranks fourth in the world in regards to debit card ownership, i.e. 92.27 per cent of people own one card. At the same time 60 per cent of Estonians have a credit card.

●OECD予測:エストニアの経済成長は加速
OECD expects Estonian economic growth to speed up. OECD estimates that Estonian economy will start to grow in the similar speed to other OECD countries. This year the Estonian GDP will increase 1 per cent and in 2014 by 2.4 per cent. Economic growth will be boosted by internal consumption supported by salary growth and decrease in unemployment. As of 2014, the economic growth will be supported also by restored company investments and better foreign environment.

Krediidiinfo data shows that in 2012 a record number of companies ended their year in profit. In 2012, 65,548 companies earned profit, which in total was worth € 5.5 billion.

●労働者データベースを官庁間で共有へ
Tax and Customs Board creates a major database of all workers. The new database will be centralised and launched from July 1, 2014. One of the changes is that instead of informing many institutions of hiring a new employee, employer can send information to the Tax and Customs Board only. The data will be made available for the Board, Police and Border Guard Board, Health Insurance Fund, Unemployment Insurance Fund, Labour Inspectorate and Social Welfare Board.

Financial Times called Estonian start-up TransferWise an innovative global company that offers better currency exchange rates than banks. Earlier this year, TransferWise added to its international credentials by securing an investment from Peter Thiel, co-founder of PayPal and a key player in Silicon Valley’s tech start-up community.

Mobile payment company Fortumo expanded its activity to India. About 67 million smart phones are in use at the moment in India, so there are a lot of potential clients for its services.

●エストニア税制,EUで8位
Global tax study “Paying Taxes 2014” ranks Estonian tax system eighth in the EU. PwC reported that Estonia is 32nd among 189 countries and eighth in the EU. The best places for entrepreneur taxpayers are in Ireland, Denmark and Luxembourg in the EU and Arab countries in the world.

EU 2012 financial report shows that Estonia had the most EU financing in 2012. Estonia received the biggest proportion of financing based on percentage of GDP, i.e. 4.84 per cent of GDP. Estonia received € 954.2 million from the EU budget in 2012, while it paid to the budget € 175.7 million.

●第3四半期平均賃金:前年同期比+8.8%
Salary increase has speed up in the last five quarters. Compared to the III quarter of 2012, the average monthly gross wages and salaries increased 8.8 per cent in the III quarter of 2013. According to Statistics Estonia, in that period the average monthly gross wages and salaries were € 930 and the average hourly gross wages and salaries were € 5.58.

Investors are attracted by Estonia’s smallness. Angel investors who participated at the Helsinki IT-conference Slush said that they consider Estonia’s small size its advantage because as a result local start-ups see the entire world as their market.

●フィンランド,エストニアの電子政府システムを導入
Finland will begin to use Estonian X-Road system. The Prime Ministers of Estonia and Finland, Andrus Ansip and Jyrki Katainen, will meet later this month to discuss Finland's plans to adopt the X-Road system, the "backbone" data exchange layer that connects the different databases used by Estonia's various e-services. Finnish paper Helsingin Sanomat wrote that the relevant Finnish system suomi.fi is confusing and unusable. Finns will get the right to use the system free of charge as Estonia developed the X-Road as part of the EU free software licence agreement. Jaan Priisalu, Chief Director of the State Information System’s Authority said it is easier to export X-Road to Europe via Finland.

●人口比の海上輸送取扱量,欧州2位
KPMG study considers Estonia as a frontrunner in Europe in maritime cargo transport. Port of Tallinn’s advantage compared with other Baltic Sea’s eastern ports is its good navigability and port’s leader position in passenger transport. In regards to cargo turnover, Port of Tallinn is fourth in the Baltics, but in regards to sea transport per capita Estonia is second in Europe.

PISA test placed Estonian students in top ten in the world. According to 2012 PISA test results presented yesterday, Estonian pupils rank eleventh in the world in math and reading skills, and tie for fourth to seventh place in natural sciences with Japan, South Korea and Finland. Organized by OECD, the PISA tests are conducted every three years, assessing the skills of 15-year-old pupils in 65 nations. Estonia improved on its 2009 scores, when the nation was ranked 13th in reading, 17th in math and 9th in science.

●汚職度の低さランキング,世界で28位
Estonia improved its position in the corruption index. Estonia ranked 28th among 177 countries in the corruption perception index, up from 32 among 176 countries a year before. According to Transparency International Estonia, Estonian arm of the international movement Transparency International, the improvement of Estonia's corruption perception index is a good sign but at the same time a lot of work has to be done to move forward.

Estonians’ robot software can be used worldwide. With Internet connection and basic knowledge of robotics, children can move robots that are located in Tallinn and in Võru via an e-environment www.roboticlab.eu and observe it via webcam. Raivo Sell, development director at ITT Group and researcher at Tallinn University of Technology, says robotics teach practical values.
