●ベルギーのロジスティックス企業,ムーガ港で倉庫施設をオープン
Belgian logistics company Katoen Natie opened its warehouse complex in Muuga. One of the biggest logistics firms opened a 25,000 m2 warehouse complex on Friday, which will store goods going to Russia and CIS. This event also marks the launch of the Muuga industrial park of Port of Tallinn. Minister of Economic Affairs and Communications Juhan Parts said it was in many ways a breaking point in Estonian transport and logistics field and it will create jobs with additional value. Katoen Natie plans to double the complex volume in the near future. Port of Tallinn CEO Ain Kaljurand said it is a great recognition to the port and Estonia that Katoen Natie chose Estonia as its location. (Postimees, page 7, May 18, 2013)
●Transiidikeskus社,ムーガ港でコンテナターミナル拡張工事を開始
Transiidikeskus AS began expanding its Muuga container terminal. This will allow the company to increase its production capability by 150,000 TEUs and reach a volume of 600,000 TEUs a year. (Äripäev, page 6, May 20, 2013)

Estonian cancer drug candidate Virexxa, a part of the product portfolio of the Competence Centre for Cancer Research, will be produced in Estonia. It will be produced in AS Kevelt, which will get € 8 million investment for its drug manufacturing unit. Its parent company Pharmsynthez received from international diagnostics company OPKO Health € 46 million investment for this project. (Äripäev, page 8, May 22, 2013)

Agriculture export increased. Estonian agriculture export comprises about 10 per cent of total Estonian export, which in the I quarter was worth € 284 million. Despite this good result, imports still exceeded exports by € 40 million. The main export destinations were Russia (19%) and Latvia (18.7%). (Äripäev, page 13, May 22, 2013)

I quarter average monthly gross wage was € 900. According to Statistics Estonia, in the I quarter of 2013, the average wages and salaries were € 900 and hourly gross wages and salaries were € 5.63. Compared to the I quarter of 2012, the average monthly gross wages and salaries grew 6.3 per cent and the average hourly gross wages and salaries 9.1 per cent. Real wage increased 2.7 per cent in the I quarter. (Postimees, page 7, May 25, 2013)
●タルトゥ大学,ゲノムを基にした医療プロジェクトに従事
Government considers personal medicine project. Scientists from University of Tartu’s Estonian Genome Centre are working on a project, referred to as preventative health care, which aims to put together a so-called genome chip to chart variants of genes that are characteristic of the local population. The Centre wishes to test most of Estonia's 35-64 year olds to give them personal gene charts to evaluate individual health risks. Centre’s director, professor Andres Metspalu said this is useful as people can take preventative measures and catch diseases early. Prime Minister Andrus Ansip said that such a form of health care would give around 10 per cent of Estonia's medical budget or € 100 million a more sensible outlet. Government now needs to decide whether to launch the € 12 million pilot project. (Eesti Päevaleht, page 4, May 28, 2013)

Estonian national post carrier Eesti Post package business is successful thanks to e-commerce. In 2012, Eesti Post had € 52.7 million in turnover and earned € 2.52 million in profit. Growth in turnover was mostly thanks to post24 postal service, i.e. an automated package locker network. Now the company has also finished expanding the network in Latvia, completing a Baltic-wide chain. (Postimees, page 8, June 3, 2013)

In April the industrial production grew compared to the previous year. According to Statistics Estonia, in April 2013, the production of industrial enterprises increased by 3 per cent compared to April 2012. The growth was most of all influenced by the manufacturing of electronic products and electricity. (Äripäev, page 10, June 3, 2013)

Car sales in the first five months of this year increased 8 per cent in a year. In May 1997 new passenger cars were sold. Most sold car brands were Toyota with 285 and Honda with 183 vehicles. (Äripäev, page 5, June 6, 2013)
