Japan-Estonia cooperation in Afghanistan

Estonia and Japan have been working closely in the field of development cooperation in Afghanistan.
The Embassy of Japan in Afghanistan signed the grant contract entitled “The project for Construction of Wells in Kariz Village in Lashkargah District of Helmand Province” with AURC (Aryana Unity Rehabilitation Council : implementing non-governmental organization for the project) at an amount of US$ 105,000 on 29th of September. This project was facilitated by the Special Mission of Estonia in Afghanistan. Through this project, 42 wells will be constructed and the project will provide drinking water for the 500 families.
Mr. Tanel Sepp, representative of the Special Mission of Estonia as well as other representatives from the Afghan Government such as representatives from the Ministry of Economy, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Public Health have attended the signing ceremony which was held at the Embassy of Japan in Kabul.
Field cooperation in Afghanistan was one of the topics which was discussed between the Estonian Prime Minister Mr. Andrus Ansip and the former Japanese Prime Minister Mr. Yukio Hatoyama during Mr. Ansip’s visit to Japan in February, 2010.
